Golf Merit Badge

On September 12th at 2:00pm Golf Merit Badge counselor Ken Noble will be holding a Golf Merit Badge class at Parker Lake Golf Facility. Parkers Lake Golf is located at 1050 Vicksburg Ln N, Plymouth. The fee is $10, and includes unlimited range balls, club rental (you can bring your own clubs if you wish) and a 9 hole scramble on the pitch and putt course. Prizes will be awarded for various competitions, and low team score.
The requirements for this badge are listed below. Every effort will be made to complete the items marked with an asterisk during the event. The other items can be completed before or after. You can discuss these with Ken at the event. Ken can be reached at groves146@aol.com
This merit badge portion of this event is limited to the first 36 scouts who sign up. No experience is necessary. Family is invited to join the fun, and hit range balls as well as play on the pitch and putt course during the event. The $10 fee applies to all who participate.
We will also need 9 parents to walk with the groups as they play the scramble tourney. Please sign up if you are available. The $10 fee will be collected on the day of the event.

*Discuss safety on the golf course. Show that you know first aid for injuries or illnesses that could occur while golfing, including heat reactions, dehydration, blisters, sprains, and strains.
*Study the USGA "Rules of Golf" now in use.
1. Tell about the three categories of golf etiquette.
2.Demonstrate that you understand the definitions of golf terms.
3. Show that you understand the "Rules of Amateur Status."
Tell about your understanding of the USGA system of handicapping.
Tell about the early history of golf.
Describe golf's early years in the United States.
Tell about the accomplishments of a top golfer of your choice.
Discuss with your counselor vocational opportunities related to golf.
*Tell how golf can contribute to a healthy lifestyle, mentally and physically.
*Tell how a golf exercise plan can help you play better. Show two exercises that would help improve your game.
*Show the following:
*Play a minimum of two nine-hole rounds or one 18-hole round of golf with another golfer about your age and with your counselor, or an adult approved by your counselor. We will play one of the two nine hole rounds at the event. Do the following:

- The proper grip, stance, posture, and key fundamentals of a good swing
- The full wood shot, played from a tee
- The fairway wood shot
- The long iron shot
- The short iron shot
- The approach, chip-and-run, and pitch shots
- The sand iron shot, bunker, or heavy rough recovery shots
- A sound putting stroke
*Play a minimum of two nine-hole rounds or one 18-hole round of golf with another golfer about your age and with your counselor, or an adult approved by your counselor. We will play one of the two nine hole rounds at the event. Do the following:
- Follow the "Rules of Golf."
- Practice good golf etiquette.
- Show respect to fellow golfers, committee, sponsor, and gallery.
