Rank advancement and merit badges are as much about leadership and taking ownership as they are about completing the specific badge or rank advancement. The scouts must take the initiative to earn thier rank by demonstrating an understanding of the requirements and the skills necessary to earn the specific rank. The scouts must also take the initiative to contact the merit badge counselors to ask questions or the make the necessary arrangements to begin completing a merit badge. A list of the current merit badge counselors is available. Occasionally, a merit badge counselor will post a merit badge opportunity on the troops' calendar!
