There is a change in the procedure regarding the certification process that takes place prior to holding the board of review for the rank of Eagle. Previously, only the Eagle application was sent to Council prior to the board of review. The new procedure will require that the following materials be sent to Council for certification before the board can be held:
- The Eagle application including signatures from the Eagle candidate, scoutmaster, and committee chair.
- The Eagle candidate's statement of Life Purpose and Ambitions and list of accomplishments (requirement #6 on the Eagle application)
- Letters of reference (one from each reference listed on application for a total of six).
- The project workbook and written project report. This should include the approval page with signatures for starting the project and the completion page with signatures. The report should be removed from any binder or page protectors and paper clipped together. It is not necessary to send pictures with the report. Council would like to photocopy the report to keep on record. The report should be placed back in a binder, etc. for the board of review.
Only originals of the above items should be sent to Council. Copies of the above items including pictures (a sampling representative of project is fine) should be sent to the district representative that approved the project plan at the same time the originals go to Council.
Once the originals have been returned to the troop and the district representative has reviewed everything, a board of review can be scheduled.
This new procedure should begin immediately with any applications that have not been certified. Any applications that have already been certified can follow the old procedures.
Please share this information with other leaders and parents in your troop.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this change.
Thank you for sharing your time and talents with the scouts.
