Canoe Trip Brule River
June 16 -18, 2006
On June 16-June 18, twenty-one scouts from Troop 283 and thirteen parents made the trek to Brule, Wisconsin for a weekend of canoeing, kayaking and camping. On Friday night we were welcomed to our usual spot at the Brule River Motel and Campground (actually they had lost our reservation but we were ok). The highlight of the weekend was canoeing down the upper Bois Brule River run which starts at Stone Bridge and ends near our campground in Brule. A few rain showers kept us cool and when that didn't work the boys found that jumping into the water was also refreshing. A stop for a lunch at the half way point gave us the energy we needed to complete the run. Saturday night was capped off with a bonfire on the shore of Lake Superior. Six of our older scouts stayed around for the high adventure part of the weekend, kayaking down the lower, trickier run which ends at about the same spot on Lake Superior. It was a fun trip which will once again be a scouting highlight for many of our crew.
