Scouts Attended Philmont Scout Ranch 2006
“T283’s Philmont ’06 Crew had a fun and successful trip to Cimarron, NM from July 22 to August 5, 2006. Ten Scouts and two adult advisors, led by Crew Leader Sam W. & Assistant Justin L., had a great time backpacking through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Each scout carried their own gear, as well as a portion of the group’s gear, which added up to somewhere around 40 to 50 lbs. The twelve day trek included a side hike to the summit of Mt Baldy (12441’) which was definitely a challenge for all! Prior to arriving at Philmont, the crew spent two days in Colorado Springs getting acclimated to the elevation. Philmont’s base camp is equivalent to Colorado Springs at around 6500’. Sightseeing stops in Colorado Springs included the US Air Force Academy, Royal Gorge Bridge, Garden of the Gods Park, and Wind Cave. The rest of the crew included Luke M., Thomas B., Andrew W., Ryan F., Thomas M., Thomas M., and Timothy P., and advisors Ed Wasz and Pat Moran. Another T283 crew is already making plans for next summer’s Philmont ’07 trek!”
