September Campout
Climbing at Devils Lake
September 14, 2007
Scouts Attended The September Campout - Climbing at Devils Lake September 14-16, 2007
For our September campout we went to Devil's Lake in Wisconsin. We started off by meeting at the church on Friday, September 14th. We unfortunately we left later than planned, so we were anxious about arriving late and having to sleep in the cars. Luckily we got there on time, quickly set up our tents and went to bed. On Saturday morning we ate a delicious pancake breakfast and then went to Devil's Lake. There we went for a hike along a rocky path that lead us to the top of a cliff. It was a beautiful sight over looking Devil's Lake. After our hike we had lunch and then went to a parking lot where we met our climbing instructor from Vertical Endeavors. We took a short hike up to our climbing spot where our instructor taught us a little bit about climbing. Everyone climbed at least once, and a few of us climbed three times. It was challenging but fun. While waiting for our turn, we free climbed and went exploring. We found a small cave and a few of us found away up to the top of our climbing area where we could look down and cheer the climbers on. After an exhausting day of hiking and climbing, we went back and made dinner. After dinner we played a few night games, ate some popcorn and then went to bed. On Sunday morning, we woke up, took down our tents and left Devil's Lake behind us. Over all I thought that it was a great trip and suggest it to everyone in the future. (Drew K.)
