Scouts Attended Philmont Scout Camp July 7-21, 2007 (flash video)
On July 7, crew 709-Bravo flew out of Minneapolis on our way to Philmont Scout Ranch. In Colorado Springs, we took a toured the Air Force Academy, went white water rafting, went over the Royal Gorge Bridge, and went to the Flying W Ranch for a chuck wagon dinner. The next day, we took a bus down to Base Camp. There, we met our guide, Mike, mapped our trek, received the Life/call phone, studied first aid, and packed our gear. The next day, we were bused out to Zastrow turnaround to begin our trek. For the next 12 days, we were to navigate our way through the 212 square mile ranch. We got to try our hand at fly fishing, branding, blacksmithing, black powder rifles, and gold panning (cliff climbing was canceled due to rain). After 12 days, 65 miles, (and not enough showers),
we returned to Base Camp. Later that afternoon, we took a bus into Cimarron and were treated by Brent to a round of ice-cream. After a night in the comfortable cots, we took a bus back up to Colorado Springs, and boarded the first plane back to Minneapolis. ( Alex E.)
