cold weather sleeping bag

mess kit (#1 forgotten item)

change of clothes

Class A (for travel, flags, & vespers)

Some things you might want:

Sleeping pad, if its inflatable it should not need an air pump

a small pillow always helps

whittling knife, bring your totin’ chip

adults: you may want a comfy cot (scouts can live with just a pad of some kind)

10 Essentials:

first aid kit, water, knife (totin’ chip too), compass, whistle

sunscreen, bug repellent (Some camps forbid aerosol), light (not your phone), mess kit, rain gear


3 W's/ 3 Layer system (Okpik uses this)

with the right gear this system can keep you warm at 30 below!

Wicking: Skin tight: thermal/ long underwear make sure it’s wool this pulls all your cold sweat away from the body

Warmth: Middle: T-shirts the minimum puffer jacket should be the maximum

Wind: Outer most: wind pants, wind breaker, buff.

When in doubt always remember the CASHEW system:

Clothing: bring a change of clothes even for the weekend.

Activities: often times we’ll be running around dress appropriately.
Sleeping: a good nights rest gives the energy for a fun day.
Hygiene: please bring personal hygiene items, your driver appreciates it!

Eating: bring a mess kit with a minimum of a bowl, a spoon, and a fork.
Weather: always pack for the weather we live in Minnesota don’t forget!
